At Zashadu, we celebrate the art of African craftsmanship, where every weave tells a story. Our Mythos collection isn’t just about leather; it’s about honoring the ancient techniques of handwoven artistry that have been passed down for generations.

A True Masterpiece

African weaving techniques are rooted in history and culture, each pattern and style infused with meaning and identity. The process of weaving leather, especially by hand, is labor-intensive, but it’s also incredibly precise. Every strand is carefully placed, creating a tapestry of texture and strength. It’s this attention to detail, this dedication to the craft, that makes African weaving techniques stand out in the world of fashion.

Honoring Tradition Through Craft; The Mythos collection is a celebration of this tradition. Each bag in the collection incorporates authentic handwoven techniques, where artisans meticulously create intricate patterns that speak to Africa’s diverse cultural heritage. Unlike mass-produced items, where speed and cost are prioritized, each piece of woven leather is carefully crafted to ensure that every knot, every weave, serves a purpose.

We work with skilled artisans who have spent years honing their craft. The process isn’t rushed. It involves patience and an understanding of the material,  knowing how to work with the leather’s natural texture, and how to manipulate it to create patterns that are not only beautiful but strong and functional.

The Art of Weaving:
From Leather to Bag: Weaving leather by hand requires a deep understanding of both technique and material. The artisans who work on our
Mythos collection start with leather that has been handpicked for its quality and character. They then carefully cut and prepare the leather, choosing sections that will work best for the weaving process. The technique involves interlacing thin strips of leather to form geometric patterns, creating a textured surface that is both visually striking and durable.

Each artisan brings their own unique touch to the process, interpreting traditional techniques in a modern context. The resulting patterns are a fusion of the old and the new, honoring Africa’s rich craft heritage while pushing boundaries in design and innovation.

Sustainability in Every Weave: Our commitment to sustainability is woven into the fabric of the Mythos collection. We source leather that would otherwise go to waste, offcuts, vintage pieces, and remnants of past projects,  breathing new life into materials that tell their own stories.

Sustainability in Every Weave

The weaving process itself is resourceful, utilizing techniques that require little more than the skill of the artisan and the material in hand. This approach minimizes waste and ensures that every piece of leather is used thoughtfully.

A True Masterpiece; The result of this process isn’t just a bag. It’s a reflection of the dedication and expertise that goes into every step. The Mythos collection is the culmination of 49 steps, each one requiring careful execution and zero compromise. From the first cut of leather to the final woven pattern, the collection embodies the spirit of African craftsmanship, timeless, resilient, and deeply rooted in tradition.

The bags that emerge from this process are not just accessories; they are pieces of art, each one carrying the legacy of African weaving techniques. They are a testament to the skill of the artisans, the richness of African heritage, and the belief that true luxury is found in authenticity and craftsmanship, not mass production.

The Mythos collection is for those who understand that every detail matters, who appreciate the beauty of slow craftsmanship, and who value the stories that each weave carries. This is our essence.
